Red Mountain
Thirty thousand square feet, taken back to studs.
The project
The entire house was taken back to studs in anticipation of the remodel, which meant we could rebuild the lighting and network from scratch rather than working around what was already there. At thirty thousand square feet, that is a considerable amount of infrastructure to plan before a single wall closes.
Lighting runs on a Control4 adaptive phase system supporting 250 loads. Adaptive phase matters at this scale because a house this size inevitably ends up with a mix of LED driver types, and adaptive dimming holds a smooth curve at the bottom of the range where cheaper systems step and flicker. Control wire was run throughout the property to service keypads in every space.
Window treatments and smart shades were customised for every window in the house, and we created three exterior audio zones alongside the interior system.
The centrepiece is the theater — the first 8K movie theater in Aspen, projecting onto a 200-inch acoustically transparent screen. Acoustic transparency is what allows the left, centre and right channels to sit behind the screen rather than beside it, so dialogue and effects come from the centre of the action instead of from the edges of the room. It is the single detail that separates a genuine cinema from a large television.
