Aspen · Roaring Fork Valley
Motorized shades
The houses we work in are built around their views, which makes shading a design problem before it is a technical one. We are a certified Lutron shading dealer and have installed motorized window treatments across the valley for over a decade — including twenty-two Sivoia QS shades in a single Basalt residence.
Why the shades and the lighting should be one system
Daylight and electric light are the same problem. When the shades and the dimming are on one Lutron system they can be scheduled together: shades track the sun through the year, the lighting compensates as the daylight drops, and a single Evening scene closes the west elevation and brings the interior up at the same moment. Run as two separate systems, they fight each other.
The Lutron range, in plain terms
Palladiom is the architectural option — hand-finished aluminium brackets, no visible fascia, available wired or battery powered, intended for rooms where the hardware is meant to be looked at. Sivoia QS Triathlon is the workhorse: quiet, reliable, wired or wireless, available in roller, honeycomb and wood blind styles. Serena is the value option and genuinely good, battery powered with long service intervals, best suited to secondary rooms.
All three are near-silent, hold alignment across a run of windows so the hems line up, and take the same fabrics.
Fabric, opacity and working with your designer
We work alongside interior designers on fabric selection rather than around them. The technical constraints are simple enough — openness factor governs how much view you keep, blackout is a construction detail as much as a fabric choice, and dual roller systems let one window do both. Everything else is a design decision and it should be made by whoever is making the rest of them.
Retrofit and existing homes
Battery-powered Sivoia and Serena shades retrofit into existing openings without new cabling, and can be added to an existing Lutron or Control4 system so they land on the same keypads as everything else. Battery life on current hardware runs to several years in normal use.
